ACVB Charter At Girdwood
My last few posts have been decidedly mediocre so let's get your attention with something from a dozen years ago!
There are no regularly scheduled passenger trains south of Anchorage on the ARR during the winter months. However the occasional charter does offer a chance to reprise some summer scenes in vastly different environment. The little five car train operated annually on behalf of the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau and always ran at a perfect time of day. I got some great shots of this train over the years but this might be the best. The little charter is scurrying back north through the stunning valley at Girdwood at about MP 75.5 on the ARR mainline. The snowcapped Chugach Mountains beyond are home to the challenging slopes of the Aleyeska Ski Resort.
