Let’s just say I had a pretty good trip to Alaska. I rode the Coastal Classic from Girdwood to Seward and back on August 20. My friend Bob Yost was driving the train which made it extra fun. After a morning along Turnagain Arm Wednesday, I went to Tidal Wave Books and bought a set of the Bernadine Prince books. Thursday, August 20 was spent with Warren and the gang on the Hurricane Turn. One over exuberant camper declared: “We have alcohol, tobacco and firearms!” I hope they survived their camping expedition. Friday, and Saturday morning, were spent up north, near the park. I got a couple new shots and figured out a couple new locations for next time. I followed the McKinley Explorer south on Saturday, so I had time to drive to Portage and chase the northbound Glacier Discovery north to Anchorage. Last year Frank reminded me that Potter is the last spot to have daylight, so I was able to bag the train as the sun popped below a cloud moments before sunset at Potter on August 22, 2015. It was my last ARR shot on this trip, so I finished on a high note!
