Under The Rainbow The penultimate northbound Denali Star of the Alaska Railroad's 2017 summer passenger season pauses at the Denali Park depot, one of only three stops and by far the busiest, on its 356 mile 12 hr daylight run from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The pair of SD70MACs lead a light late season train of only six cars. With no PAT cars on the rear we get a nice portrait of ARR 522 a classic 'heritage' dome coach built by Budd in 1954 for the Northern Pacific Railway's famed Northcoast Limited as NP 555. It passed to BN and Amtrak which rebuilt it for HEP before it finally came to the 49th state in 1999. Check out this link for a story about the service she was originally built for.
