This is the railroad's current setup for avalanche mitigation. They share this with the local DOT crews for controlled avalanches from Girdwood to Portage.
It shoots 105mm shells leftover from the Vietnam era and they need to be assembled on-site. This shot was just outside of Bear Valley. Photos from 3/15/2019
